This patent introduces a new medical device for effectively removing plaques located within blood vessels in the body. The device utilizes a multi-stranded tubular braided structure with radially expandable elements that create fine cracks by closely contacting the plaque. Moreover, it can enhance therapeutic effects by releasing medication into the cracks within the plaque. This device is designed to be more cost-effective and user-friendly compared to traditional methods.
Traditional balloon angioplasty carries a risk of restenosis, which can be improved by using stents, but this increases costs and risks. Additionally, drug therapy often cannot tolerate the dosage needed for localized beneficial effects within the arterial wall systemically, failing to effectively reduce neointimal hyperplasia. Existing local drug delivery devices also face issues like low transition efficiency, rapid washout, lack of retention, and the potential for additional vascular damage.
This patent provides a new device to reduce the risk of restenosis in traditional balloon angioplasty and enhance the localized effects of drug therapy. The device uses a multi-stranded tubular braided structure with radially expandable elements that closely contact the plaque, creating fine cracks. This allows for the release of medication into the cracks within the plaque, enhancing therapeutic effects. Additionally, the device is removable and can be easily extracted from the body.
